No visit to Caloundra would be complete without a tour of the hinterland and its townships, each of which offers much to see and do. You can while away the hours in the many arts and crafts shops, tuck into a Devonshire tea or purchase farm-fresh produce from a roadside stall....the choice is yours. There is also a host of more energetic pursuits to choose from including bushwalking, rock climbing and horse riding.

Dip into deep blue
What is so extraordinary about Caloundra's kilometres of sandy beaches, aside from their acknowledged beauty, is their diversity. From open ocean surf beaches that stretch northwards in an almost straight line to Point Cartwright along the Kawana Waters foreshore, to those that curve in gentler waters alongside the City heart and south to Golden Beach. Surfing, safe swimming, snorkelling, beach or boat fishing, canoeing, windsurfing and water-skiing can all be enjoyed off any of Caloundra's clean and lovely beaches.

Perfect waves
Aside from well-known Kings Beach, other top places to catch the best waves are Dicky Beach, Moffat Beach, Currimundi, Wurtulla, Buddina and Kawana at the northern end of our coastal strip. Moffat and Shelly offer great beach fishing, rocky pools and exhilarating walks. All other Caloundra beaches have good swimming conditions and many are patrolled all year round, either by volunteers from the many Surf Life Saving clubs or Council paid lifeguards.

Perfect for kids
Both Bulcock Beach, near the City centre, and Golden Beach provide calm water swimming and are wonderful for small children. They also offer boating, fishing and windsurfing. Here, and also at Dicky and Wurtulla Beaches, you'll find well equipped children's play areas and excellent BBQ and picnic facilities, the latter also being provided at Kings Beach. Kings, Dicky and Kawana Beaches are patrolled 365 days a year and in addition the Caloundra City Council have Mobile Lifeguards patrolling the open beaches.

Beach wilderness

Just north of Currimundi Beach, an Environmental Park entices wildflower enthusiasts and bushwalkers along well formed walking trails through a coastal wilderness. On its southern border, the clear waters of Currimundi Lake are safe for swimming and boating (a boat ramp is located on the southern shore). Nearby the Currimundi Recreation Centre caters for school and community group camps.

Caloundra welcomes visitors with dogs and has a number of park and foreshore areas where they can run unleashed at any time or between specified hours.
